When planning your wedding, buying the dress is an important step! You need to buy it on time so that you’re not concerned about the dress at all in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Knowing when to buy your dress is important, so it’s good to know when to shop:
When You Begin Planning
Before booking appointments, know your date and venue. Having your venue and date selected will give you a better idea of two key parts of your wedding day: the setting and weather. These two factors may affect what dress you choose to wear, so it’s important to choose these two before starting to shop.
When to Shop
This will sound early, but you should start shopping 9-12 months ahead of the wedding. You need to shop this early so that the designer has plenty of time to create your dress. A high-end garment like your wedding dress needs extensive time and expertise to create, so you’ll want to order early so that it arrives on time. We recommend only bringing along 2-3 of your closest loved ones to the appointment—keeping guests limited to those you trust most will help make your appointment much easier to focus on what you’re looking for.
Once the dress arrives (typically 4-6 months after you place your order), you’ll most likely need minor alterations to make it fit completely perfectly. Our in-house seamstresses are experts, and will ensure your dress is altered seamlessly. The process of alterations occurs over 2-3 fittings, and typically takes two months. During this process, you’ll bring along any undergarments, accessories, or shoes you plan to wear, so that the dress is altered perfectly for your wedding day. After alterations, there’s nothing left to do but walk down the aisle!
