We got in touch with bride Amanda to find out all about her "tractors and wood"-themed garden wedding - and of course her Stella York bridal gown!

How did your partner propose?

It was our 10 year anniversary and he took me for a walk and picnic on the South Downs before getting down on one knee and popping the question!

What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?

To make sure you take a couple of moments through the day to spend with your husband and take in everything that’s going on around you.

How did you go about finding your wedding dress?

Living in Uckfield meant Fross was my local bridal shop and one I’d walked past lots of times! It was my first port of call and I knew I wanted to try on a selection of wedding dress styles. The vision I had in my head was very different to the wedding dress I actually chose!

How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?

‘The One’ was the first one I tried on! I didn’t realise at the time though and went on to try about 7 more before going back to the first one.

What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?

It was a typical princess dress, full skirt, long train and beautiful detail. I’d tried it on as a bit of a joke but then realised I actually loved it. If you can’t wear a big dress on your wedding day, when can you?!

Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?

No veil or accessories other than jewellery and natural flowers in my hair

Tell us a little about your wedding day

We had a church ceremony which is something I’d always envisioned and then got very lucky with a reception venue as a customer of my husband’s kindly offered her beautiful gardens to us which were situated just a 5 minute walk from the village church. We went to a Beautiful World Tents open event and fell in love with the giant tipis as they offered such a cool and laid back vibe, which is just what we were after. We utilised the gorgeous grounds with fun games for our guests to play and got very lucky with the weather! Tractors and wood were also a key theme as my husband is a tree surgeon! Circa Events provided us with some delicious food; we opted for sharing BBQ and salad platters and enjoyed our delicious cake for dessert! Our band, South of Saturn really made the evening with everyone up and dancing throughout the evening.

What was your favourite moment from the day itself?

Taking our first dance on a table that my husband had made. It wasn’t planned but made our first dance even more memorable and didn’t stop people joining us - luckily the table was well enough made that it was able to take the weight!

Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?

Don’t feel any pressure to buy the first dress you love. Enjoy trying different styles on and ensuring you’re comfortable and happy with your dress.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Ibiza two days after our wedding day. Even if you can’t get away for your full honeymoon immediately I’d definitely recommend taking some time away with your husband even if it’s just a couple of nights so you can stay in your wedding bubble!
