With so many of our brides having to delay their weddings due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was a joyous moment when Antonella sent through these photos from her wedding day last year. What a gorgeous, fairytale wedding in a Kent castle - and that Ian Stuart wedding dress couldn't be more perfect! We caught up with Antonella to find out how it went and her tips for other brides.
How did your partner propose?
It was the summer before, in the south of Italy, by the beach. It was my birthday, in the afternoon... we were going for a walk and stopped at a bar for a glass of spumante. He asked me if I wanted to be his wife. Of course, I said yes, and could have not felt more proud.
What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?
The best piece of advice? Make the most of the time you have. Enjoy every moment in the run up to your special day. Every moment you spend organising it, even the stressful times when you try to make everything perfect, counts towards the memories you will cherish forever.
How did you go about finding your wedding dress?
Before finding my dress I looked at many gowns online, looking for a style I liked. I also visited a couple of shops in Italy with my Mum and sisters and tried some different styles. I liked the figure hugging ones but also the big ball gowns. I wanted my dress to fit our venue, a stunning Castle in Kent. When I went to Fross, I wasn't sure I already knew what I wanted... but when asked what type of dress I saw myself wearing on the day, without releasing, I just described this dress Millie pulled out. When I tried it on, it just felt “right”.
How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?
Probably less than 10. They were all very beautiful. At first I wasn’t sure what type of dress I would have gone for, but I knew how I wanted to feel whilst wearing it. The gown was by Ian Stuart. Beautiful gown... timeless elegance. I have loved being one of his brides. I couldn’t have made a better choice, perfect for the venue and perfect for me.
What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?
It had everything I wanted. It was an evening elegant dress with a big detachable ball-gown-skirt.
Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?
Yes I did wear a big long veil matching my dress and a beautiful crystal tiara.
Tell us a little about your wedding day – the vibe, what inspired you, etc.
It was simply magical. But easy done 😀 when you know in your heart you are in love and are marrying the perfect guy for you.
What was your favourite moment from the day itself?
The first look. My then husband-soon-to-be and I decided to meet just before the ceremony, as an opportunity to have a special moment together before it all started. It was indeed a very special moment together. A beautiful memory to hold.
Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?
You plan your day to the smallest of details because you want that day to be just perfect, just as you want it. But it never goes to plan. Mainly because it’s a day charged with a lot of emotions and very overwhelming feelings. Not just you, but everyone around you feels the same. But no matter what, just enjoy it. It’s too precious to miss.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Yes, we did. It was the first thing we booked soon after setting the date 😀. We went to French Polynesia. We left two days after the wedding, which was great, it gave us a day to recover from the wedding, then to pack and go.
