How did your partner propose?
We had just finished putting up our Christmas tree (one of my favourite days of the year!) and were drinking wine in our pyjamas! After acting strangely for a while, he got down on one knee!
What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?
We were very lucky to have a lot of love and support in the run up to the wedding. In terms of the wedding planning a couple of people told us to do what was right for us, which helped with some tricky decisions. I also saw somewhere that as long as you are married at the end of the day, then everything went perfectly.
How did you go about finding your wedding dress?
I had started a Pinterest board with some styles I liked and then started looking at the dresses that were available in some local shops to decide where to try. My Mum had heard about a friend having a lovely experience in Fross from a colleague, so we booked an appointment and the rest is history!
How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?
I had tried on about 6 dresses in another shop. My wedding dress was the second that I tried on in Fross. It was slightly different to what I had in my head, but I cried when I saw myself in it. I knew immediately that it was the dress I wanted to get married in.
Do you know the name of your dress designer?
What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?
I loved the fit of the dress. I wanted quite a simple dress but with the lace and beading detail at the top and the train it felt so special without me feeling like the dress was wearing me.
Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?
I wore my Mum’s veil! The seamstress was able to repair it and fix it to a comb which was so special. The rest of my accessories were quite simple, I wore some pearl earrings which my Mum and stepdad gave me for my 30th birthday, and a diamond necklace that my husband (!) gave me on our wedding day.
Tell us a little about your wedding day – the vibe, what inspired you, etc.
Luckily Nik and I had a very similar idea for our wedding day! We had a fairly intimate wedding of 60 with our closest friends and family and luckily managed to get my brother, Nik’s Mum and the best man in from abroad. We wanted a slightly rustic feel but were keen to get married and have our reception all at one venue. We got married at One Warwick Park Hotel in Tunbridge Wells which has a perfect mix of exposed brick work and beams with super stylish boutique feel in the rest of the hotel. Our beautiful flowers (from Peonies from Pluto) tied in perfectly as they were classic creams and pinks with a slightly quirky twist. Our table centres matched the slightly rustic feel of the room with jars full of flowers and candles on cut tree trunks (scavenged by my Mum from some tree trimmers!) We spent quite a lot of weekends making things ourselves and with my Mum including the place cards, the menus, the seating plan and drying petals for the confetti. My Mum and I made the cakes, and my Grandma made our pew ends. On the day it felt extra special remembering all the time we had spent on these small details.
What was your favourite moment from the day itself?
The whole day was amazing from start to finish. I have to say walking in and seeing Nik was so special, but an amazing moment was when we were having some photos taken on the Pantiles, we received a standing ovation from the people at the surrounding pubs and restaurants!
Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?
Planning a wedding (particularly during a pandemic) can be so stressful and take over but enjoy the magic and excitement. Remember to spend time as a couple where you don’t talk about the wedding but just enjoy each other’s company. Also remember always why you are getting married, for me focussing on the fact that we were getting married because we completely love each other and wanted to make a commitment makes puts everything else into perspective.
Are you taking a honeymoon and if so when (in relation to your wedding, ie, immediately after, or sometime later) and what are your plans?
We went away for a couple of nights to The Gallivant in Rye for a Mini-moon, but we hope to go away next year for a longer trip!
